Starlink for businesses is worth considering when the available terrestrial connection does not meet your needs. It can also serve as a backup line. For professional use in Greece, however, the decision depends on location, plan, data consumption and total cost.
Starlink for Businesses: What to Check
Starlink connects your antenna to low-Earth-orbit satellites. It needs an unobstructed view of the sky and electrical power. First, check the specific address on the Greek Starlink Business page. General coverage in an area is not enough to assess an individual building.
Starlink offers Priority plans with data allowances. For a fixed business location, check the available Local Priority option and its terms. Do not assume that residential, roaming and business plans provide the same capabilities. In-motion use or use outside the country requires a separate check of coverage and terms.
How Much Does Business Starlink Cost?
The final price comes from the offer for your address and equipment. For an accurate budget, keep a dated quote specifying the plan and data allowance. Therefore, do not use an old residential-plan price as your business budget.
- Initial cost: antenna and equipment, shipping, mounting hardware, cabling and any installation work.
- Monthly cost: subscription with the selected Priority data allowance and any additional data blocks.
- Operation: electricity, networking equipment, a UPS and a second connection if you need backup connectivity.
- Final quote: check VAT, offer validity, return terms and any commitments.
For a twelve-month comparison, add the initial cost to twelve monthly subscriptions and expected additional expenses. According to Starlink, the terminal access charge is included in published Priority monthly prices. Do not add it a second time.
Data, Speed and Limitations
Estimate usage from video calls, backups and customers’ devices. Priority plans allow data adjustments in 50 GB or 500 GB blocks. Also check whether automatic data top-ups are enabled, because they can increase your bill.
When Local or Global Priority data runs out without an additional block, speeds are limited to up to 1 Mbps download and 0.5 Mbps upload. That is the limit specified in the official data-limit guidance. This connection is not sufficient for every business task.
Meanwhile, obstructions and severe weather can affect the connection. One peak-speed measurement does not establish stable operation throughout the day. Test video calls, VPN access and cloud applications during your business’s working hours.
Installation and Backup Connectivity
Before buying mounts or cables, use the Starlink app’s obstruction check. Trees, parapets and neighbouring buildings may require a different installation position. If installation involves working at height, use a suitable professional.
For backup connectivity, you need a router supporting two connections and automatic failover. Add a UPS where needed, so a power cut does not take the antenna and network down together. However, switching connections can interrupt active calls or VPN sessions. Test the transition and the return to the primary line.
For example, a taverna in a remote area could test its ordering system and payment terminal before relying on the new connection. Ask each application provider for its network requirements. The premises’ internet connection differs from your website hosting; one does not replace the other.
When the Choice Makes Sense
If you have reliable fibre, first compare the cost of a second terrestrial or mobile connection. If alternatives are limited, test Starlink at the actual premises with your everyday workload.
